You never know when road construction or a serious accident will close the highways on which you normally travel. You also never know when inclement weather will force you to change routes. Make sure you have a few different ways to get where you’re headed mapped out.
Plan Plenty of Fun and Engaging Stops
While you are mapping out your routes, make sure to plan plenty of fun and engaging stops along the way to allow the family to use the restroom and get out of the RV and move around. Stop at places that have hiking trails so everyone can get their blood circulating again, or make sure to make a stop at every eclectic roadside attraction on the way to the campsite. Getting out of the RV and having fun will keep everybody in a good mood and also help to keep you alert behind the wheel.
Avoid Junk Food and Caffeine
Speaking of staying alert, you may be tempted to consume a ton of caffeine so you can continue to drive and make it to the campsite as soon as possible. This is a bad idea, as caffeine increases aggression and will make you cranky. In fact, foods that are fatty and loaded with sugar and caffeine are a bad idea because they will make everybody in the RV agitated. Stick to healthy snacks, three square meals a day, and plenty of water to stay hydrated.
